Dept. of Material & Life Chemistry?
1. The department aims to carry out the highest quality and the most advanced education of chemistry from basic chemistry to applied chemistry and to apply the results derived from the study of chemistry to practical use.
(1)The purpose of studying chemistry is to clarify the structure and characteristics of existing substances and to create new substances. For this reason, chemistry is at the core of all materials science and technology. The objective of education at the Department of Material & Life Chemistry is to apply the results gained from the study of chemistry to practical use for the benefit of people.
2. Students are divided into three courses and learn specialized fields intensively.
(2)Students of the Department of Material & Life Chemistry are allocated to three courses, Resources, Energy and the Environment, Structural and Functional Materials and Biomolecular Engineering, in the third year to intensively study specialized fields. There are thirteen research groups in the three courses that carry out the highest quality education and the most advanced research from basic chemistry to applied chemistry.
3. Carrying out various advanced studies including research into new materials and pharmaceuticals.
(3)Diverse, highly advanced research in the research groups includes: Research into new highly efficient catalysts and new ceramics, which can be used as new energy, to save energy and to clean environments. Development of high and low molecular substances with excellent functionality and high efficiency, such as converting light to heat and separating certain metals. Studies on the effective use of resources that have not been used. Composition of new pharmaceuticals using amino acids and sugars as materials. Development of high-energy density batteries. Research into acid deposition.
4. Attach importance to scholastic ability in the fundamentals to gain problem-solving capability.
(4)The Department of Material & Life Chemistry attaches great importance to the education of the fundamentals so that students gain the ability to solve problems which they may encounter after graduation. Graduates of the Department of Material & Life Chemistry are actively employed as researchers and engineers in a variety of fields related to chemistry. Chemistry is making rapid progress. The number of students taking postgraduate courses is increasing with the purpose of gaining even higher research abilities.
